Red light therapy

Also known as: photobiomodulation, PBM, red light bed, LED light therapy

Use of red or near-infrared light directed at an area of the body with a light-emitting device.

Context

Devices may use LEDs or low-level lasers. A bed, panel or handheld format does not establish the light dose or intended effect. Ask which device and exposure were studied for the proposed use; results from one condition or device may not apply to another.

Question to ask

Which device, wavelengths and exposure settings are proposed, and what evidence supports the intended outcome?
